2018 Blue note issue 45rpm on 180g vinyl 2LP- "Mister Funk-Jazz" is back! But watch out, Marcus Miller's latest album is called "Laid Black" and not "Laid Back", and he calls it his "Return to Funk". So it's not particularly casual here, on the contrary: funky, powerful and groovy, with all the elements that have made Miller a legend. After the successful album predecessor "Afrodeezia", which scored points with world music elements, the path here leads back to the roots of the most famous and most popular electric bass player in the world. Miller: "With Laid Black 'I want to bring my music into the present - with elements of contemporary urban music. That's why you hear hip-hop, trap, soul, funk and R'n'B on this album in addition to jazz." Miller invited Trombone Shorty, Jonathan Butler and Take 6 to the studio as guests of his funk jazz party.
