In 1892 the Czech composer was appointed director of the National Conservatory of Music of America. During his three-year stay, the work was created, in which he tried to process influences from Indian melodies. The Bohemian musician, who combined classical and romantic elements with elements of folk music in his compositions, cannot deny this style here either. The symphony immediately became an international success with its premiere in New York's Carnegie Hall. Rafael Kubelík's recordings of Dvořák's works for Deutsche Grammophon are reference recordings.
